Wolverhampton shooting: Four in custody after latest Black Country gun attack

Four men have been arrested after a man was shot in Wolverhampton – the third Black Country shooting in a matter of days.

The man, aged in his 30s, was shot in his foot in the Parkfield area of the city at around 5pm on Tuesday.

He was taken to hospital where his injuries were said to be "serious but not life-threatening".

Four men were arrested on suspicion of firearms offences and they remained in custody on Wednesday morning, a police spokesman confirmed.

Joan Street, the residential road where the shooting took place, remained cordoned off in the aftermath of the incident as specialist search teams scoured the area.

The police cordon blocked off Dixon Street with its junctions with Thompson Avenue and Kent Road.

A heavy police presence remained in the area throughout Tuesday evening.

Residents in the area had spoken of their shock at the shooting – which is the third in the Black Country in a matter of days after a shotgun attack in Walsall left a man critically injuredon Sunday evening and a shotgun was fired in Halesowen on Monday.

One neighbour, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "I couldn't believe it when I heard a man had been shot. I really hope the man makes a full recovery.

"It is getting awful nowadays – all you hear about is stabbings and shootings all the time."

Another added: "We didn't know anything about it until we saw all the emergency services rushing down Dixon Street. They then started cordoning the road off.

"It is really horrible to hear there's been a shooting so nearby."

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "Police have been called to a shooting in Joan Street, Wolverhampton, at around 5pm today.

"A man in his 30s has sustained gunshot wounds to his foot and been taken to hospital.

"Four men have been arrested on suspicion of firearms offences and will be questioned in due course."
