Petrol bomb thrown at van parked on West Bromwich drive

CCTV has captured the moment a petrol bomb was launched at a van parked outside a West Bromwich home.

In the clip, which was posted on social media, a person is seen walking past the drive on Chester Road before stopping and pausing for a few moments, then hurling an item which is on fire at the van.

Flames cover the front of the van and the car parked next to it as the man runs off.

The incident happened in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The person hurling the 'petrol bomb' at the van

A resident posted on Facebook on Thursday saying: "Last night around 11.30pm a petrol bomb was thrown at a house on Chester Road.

"The person who has done it has driven past the house twice and then a lad has jumped out and lit the petrol bomb and thrown it at the van and car parked on the drive.

"CCTV has caught him doing this and police are looking into it however does anyone know of anyone who might have cctv on the street which will show which way the lad went or what the registration of the vehicle may have been.

"Please share this post and let’s see if we can help catch the scum "

The aftermath of the incident

She added added: "It’s disgusting! A family fast asleep and woken up by the bang. It could have been a lot worse."

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Police said: "Police are investigating after a Mercedes Sprinter van was damaged in a petrol bomb attack in the early hours of Thursday.

"Nothing was stolen in the attack, however police are examining CCTV and ask anyone with information to contact them on Live Chat at west-midlands.police.uk between 8am and midnight or call 101. Quote crime reference 20SW/109976D/19."
