Police were called to reports of an assault in a room at Barons Court Hotel, Walsall Wood, at around 10pm last night.

Officers found a 30-year-old woman with a fractured arm and facial injuries.

Police dog Zander tracked to a wooded area near the hotel and a hole in a wire fence leading into thick undergrowth.

It was too small for a police officer in full uniform, stab vest and kit to squeeze through so Zander and his handler laid in wait hiding in a pub car park.

Around 15 minutes later the suspect emerged from the hole and was greeted by the German shepherd.

A 21-year-old man from Oldbury was arrested on suspicion of wounding and remains in police custody.
