The woman's body was discovered after police were called to Beacon View Road, in the Charlemont Farm area, at around 5.30am on Wednesday.

A 51-year-old man is being questioned by police. However West Midlands Police has not confirmed what he was arrested on suspicion of and said that the woman's death is currently being treated as unexplained.

A spokesman for the force said detectives were likely to know more when a post-mortem examination has been completed.

The death of the woman has been described as "truly tragic" by neighbours.

One resident, who asked not to be named, said: "I have seen people come and go and this is tragic. It shouldn't happen.

"It is a quiet neighbourhood. A lady told me what happened."

Speaking about the victim, he added: "She was quite friendly. No bother at all. She was so young and it's such a loss.

"It is a sad event really. It is not going to be easy to get over with it being so close."

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call West Midlands Police on 101, quoting incident number 293 of March 6.

Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
