Officers tried to approach the stolen green Skoda Octavia on Friday afternoon in Coalway Road but it drove off and hit one officer, injuring his leg.

It is thought the vehicle was used in two bilkings earlier that day.

Police flooded the area and two men were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Today, West Midlands Police confirmed that 20-year-old Gage Wilkes and 19-year-old Callum Ball had been charged with multiple offences.

Wilkes, of Croxdene Avenue in Bloxwich, was charged with aggravated vehicle taking, driving while disqualified, attempt to cause GBH without intent, common assault, making off without payment and possession of Class B drugs.

Ball, of Hall Green Street, Wolverhampton, was charged with aggravated vehicle taking and two counts of making off without payment.

They have both been remanded in custody and are due to appear at Walsall Magistrates Court tomorrow morning.

Following the incident, residents revealed the area in Bloxwich was getting worse over the years.

One local, who asked not to be named, said: "I've lived here since I was born and it's never been this bad.

"It was a nice little estate but it's like bandit county now.

"It's just terrible what happened. I'm glad they caught the people involved though."
