Man in hospital after street robbery

A 41-year-old man is in hospital after being robbed of £4,600 by three men armed with baseball bats.

Rajesh Kaushal was attacked on a car park on Gilbert Road, Smethwick, on Friday night.

He was knocked to the ground and beaten before he escaped to safety , his brother Rajnish, 40, said. The money was stored in a laptop bag.

The victim, who runs Hybrid Travel & Tours Limited in Waterloo Road, Smethwick, was taken to hospital with cuts to his head and hand, a West Midlands Police spokesman said.

The spokesman said: “Police are investigating after a man is believed to have been attacked with baseball bats during a robbery in Gilbert Road, Smethwick, around 9.30pm on Friday (18 January).

The victim, aged in his 40s, was approached by up to three men who fled with cash after the assault.”
