A £5,000 reward has been offered after a man was beaten up with a metal bar outside his home in Dudley.

The 44-year-old man, who wishes to stay anonymous, broke his shoulder in three places and needed 15 stitches to his head after the brutal morning attack.

The incident happened outside his home on Bayswater Road in Lower Gornal at 6.22am on January 10.

The victim was heading to his car to drive to work when a man, who had his face covered, attacked him.

'He kept hitting'

He said: "I was getting into my car when I heard footsteps behind me, the man was right on top of me and he battered me over the head with a metal bar.

"He hit me three times in the head initially and I hit the floor after the first one but he then kept hitting me.

"The man was around six foot or six foot one and was wearing black and had his face covered.

"He shattered my shoulder in three places, gave me 15 stitches to my head and he was close to breaking my ankle and arm too, I'm lucky to be alive, I was battered to within an inch of my life.

"When he was hitting me I said 'you're killing me' but he didn't relent, he didn't say a thing.

'The paramedic couldn't look'

"I lost so much blood, I couldn't move, an ex-police officer that is my neighbour was the first person on the scene to help me.

"The injuries were so bad that even one of the paramedics said they couldn't look at my head, they had to stitch my skull back together, it was that deep.

"My wife is petrified about repercussions now.

"It was horrific, everything aches and I keep blacking out, I'm making a bit of a recovery and I'm getting the stitches out soon but I'm very concerned still."
