Heroin and cash found as drug suspects ram armed police car in Walsall
Class A drugs and cash were found after a car carrying armed police was rammed during a dramatic chase in the Black Country.
Around 100 wraps of suspected heroin were recovered from the car alongside "a significant amount of cash" after the incident unfolded at around 1pm yesterday.
The police chase began after firearms officers attempted to stop a car believed to be linked to drug dealing in the Chuckery estate in Walsall.
The armed officers, patrolling in an unmarked car, were rammed into when they tried to halt the suspicious car in Tong Street.
After crashing into the firearms officers, the driver took off down nearby Beacon Street where the car was abandoned and two suspects attempted to escape on foot.
A 29-year-old man from Bentley, believed to have been driving the car, was found hiding behind a nearby van, while a 16-year-old boy from Walsall understood to have been a passenger in the car was also detained.
A third man who was not in the car was arrested and later charged for possession of Class A drugs.
West Midlands Police Force Incident Manager, Chief Inspector Sally Ford, said: "This is a great result, two good arrests and a significant haul of suspected Class A drugs recovered − we’ll be carrying out further searches which could well lead us to identify more drugs and crime suspects."
The suspected dealers remained in custody on suspicion of possessing Class A drugs with intent to supply this morning, with the suspected driver also being questioned over failing to stop for police.
Meanwhile Craig Bird, aged 29 of Tantara Street in Chuckery, Walsall, has been charged for possession of Class A drugs and bailed to appear at Walsall and Aldridge Magistrates Court on February 1.
