Lower Gornal murder suspect in court as victim confirmed as father-of-four

A man has appeared in court charged with stabbing a father-of-four to death in Dudley.

Nabeel Choudhary, from Hope Street, West Bromwich, appeared at Walsall Magistrates' Court this morning charged with murder and possession of an imitation firearm with criminal intent.

He is accused of stabbing to death 34-year-old Yasir Hussain in Central Drive, Lower Gornal, on Tuesday..

Mr Hussain, from Nelson in Lancashire, was officially confirmed as the murder victim by West Midlands Police today.

A post-mortem concluded that Mr Hussain died from stab wounds to the back.

The stabbing happened at around 9.40pm shortly after a Transit van and Ford Fiesta crashed into a nearby Chinese takeaway.

Choudhary, 20, is the only suspect to have been charged over the incident and detectives are still appealing for people with information to come forward.

Detective Inspector Jim Colclough, from the force’s homicide unit, said: “We continue to encourage anyone who has any information which they believe would assist our investigation to get in touch.

"Violent crime has no place in our region and we will continue to work tirelessly with partners and local people to tackle the harm and misery it causes to families, friends and the wider community."

Choudhary was remanded in custody to appear at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Tuesday.

Three people arrested on suspicion of murder on Tuesday night were released pending further investigation, while a 21-year-old woman held on suspicion of assisting an offender has also been released.

Meanwhile armed police were patrolling Dudley last night as West Midlands Police stepped up its response to the recent spate of violence.
