Halesowen hit-and-run suspect released as inquiries continue

A man arrested after a pedestrian was seriously injured in a hit-and-run in the Black Country has been released by police.

The 26-year-old suspect was detained after a woman was left with life-changing injuries when she was hit by a car in Long Lane, Halesowen, at around 8.30pm on Friday .

The man was arrested at an address in Oldbury two-and-a-half hours after the woman was struck by a blue 2004 Audi A3.

He was held on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a collision but he has since been released pending further inquiries, West Midlands Police confirmed this morning.

The woman, aged 52, needed major emergency surgery in the aftermath of the crash, which left her with a serious head injury.

Detective Sergeant Alan Hands said in the aftermath of the crash: "A woman is in a serious condition in hospital, awaiting major surgery and we want to establish exactly how that happened.

“I appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision and hasn’t already spoken to us, or has CCTV or dash-cam footage to get in touch."
