Two men are being searched for after a daylight shootout on a Wolverhampton street.

West Midlands Police launched an appeal to find the men this morning - more than seven months after shots were exchanged between gunmen on the street and inside a car on Easter Sunday.

Shots were fired at a blue BMW 1 series by a gang of up to four hooded men in Lowe Street, Whitmore Reans, at around 4.40pm.

Shots were then fired back from the car before the men on the street ran off down nearby Dunstall Road.

Officers are unsure how many shots were fired but at least two guns are believed to have been involved.

There were no reports of any injuries but a nearby vehicle was damaged in the cross-fire.

The shootout happened on April 1 but police are still searching for the gunmen more than seven months on.

A 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm but was later released, with no further action taken.

Detectives have now released CCTV images of two men, believed to be teenagers, who they want to speak to.

Officers said the pictures could only be shared after 'months of extensive enquires', including forensic examination and telecommunications work.

A number of people were walking down the road and driving in the area at the time of the shooting and police are keen to hear from anyone they've not already spoken to.

Detective Constable Polly Venables, from force CID, said: “We’ve carried out extensive enquiries over the last seven months which have proved complex as no one has made any complaints to us.

“We need to speak to these people as they may have vital information about what happened so I’d urge them, or anyone who knows who they are to get in touch.

“It’s completely unacceptable that gunshots were fired in broad daylight on a busy street in the city and we need to find out why this happened and who is responsible.

“A vehicle parked on the street was damaged during the cross-fire; it’s lucky no one was in the car at the time and that there were no innocent passers-by injured.

“Those who think it’s acceptable to use weapons in this manner need to know that we will continue to use all the resources available to us to find their firearms and bring those connected to them to justice."
