Police are now investigating after the shots were fired in the Alum Rock area of Birmingham in the early hours of Thursday.

Officers were called to reports that an object had been thrown through the window of a home on Sandbourne Road at around 2.55am.

Police soon confirmed the damage had been caused by a gunshot.

A baby, who was in the house at the time, suffered a minor injury from broken glass and was taken to hospital.

A second shooting at a window of a property on Fernbank Road took place at around 3am, although no-one was injured and a dark vehicle was seen driving off from the scene.

Officers remain at the scenes today to carry out house-to-house inquiries and recover evidence.

Police say the shooting are linked.

Detective Inspector Richard Marsh, from West Midlands Police, said: “The investigation is at an early stage, but given how close the incidents were in time and location, we are linking them.

“A young child has been injured as a result of the reckless discharge of a firearm, and we’re working hard to bring whoever was responsible to justice.

“Gun crime is a priority for West Midlands Police and we continue to take dangerous weapons off the streets and put those involved in firearms behind bars.

“We rely on the public’s support and I’d urge anyone who knows who was responsible for the shootings to consider the fact that a baby has been injured today.

“Do the right thing and tell us what you know.

“If anyone saw any suspicious activity in the area, I’d urge them to get in touch as soon as possible.”
