Three officers attacked in Walsall after suspected garage burglary

Three police officers have been attacked in Walsall following a suspected break-in.

The assaults are believed to have happened overnight in Bloxwich after the officers attended a garage burglary.

One officer was head-butted, another was punched in the head and one pushed to the floor suffering minor head injuries.

A man and a woman have been arrested and are in police custody and officers are now appealing for information after three other men fled the scene.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "Police were called to reports of a burglary in progress in Little Bloxwich, Walsall, at around 1.25am yesterday morning.

"Three officers attended and were assaulted resulting in minor injuries.

"A 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and a 21-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of burglary. Both remain in police custody.

"Three other men fled the scene when officers arrived.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman added: "We were called by police at 1.30am yesterday morning.

"One ambulance attended and treated one police officer for minor injuries but no hospital treatment was needed."
