Attempted murder arrest after police officers hit by car

A man is being questioned over the attempted murder of a female police officer who suffered serious leg injuries after being hit by a car.

Two police constables were injured when they were struck in Stafford – with one remaining in hospital with multiple fractures and a broken kneecap.

A 25-year-old man, from Stafford, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and dangerous driving.

A 30-year-old woman, also from Stafford, was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop, dangerous driving, assisting an offender, taking a motor vehicle without consent and providing a positive breath test.

The incident happened in the Coton Fields area of the town just before 11am on Sunday.
