A man who allegedly threatened to jump from a city bridge has been charged by police.

Wolverhampton's bus station was closed during the incident on Tuesday

Nicki Maynard-Hughes was due to appear at Walsall Magistrates' Court after the incident in Wolverhampton yesterday.

The 31-year-old, of Tettenhall Road, Wolverhampton, was charged with causing a public nuisance and causing danger to road users.

Wolverhampton city centre was brought to a standstill as Railway Drive, a stretch of the ring road and the city bus station were all shut during the incident.

There was gridlock on main roads – including Stafford Road, Cannock Road and Wednesfield Road – with drivers facing delays of more than an hour.

Railway Drive and St David’s ring road were closed for seven hours as specialist police officers negotiated with a man, who had been on the bridge since before 2am and came down at about 9am.
