Off-duty cop released from hospital after stab attack in Great Barr

An off-duty police officer who was stabbed in the chest for his car keys is recovering at home after the ordeal.

The attack happened in broad daylight outside a row of shops in Great Barr yesterday afternoon.

Police were called to Moreton Avenue, near Queslett Road, shortly after 1.30pm.

The victim, thought to be a West Mercia Police officer aged in his 20s, was approached by a man demanding the keys to his car, before he was stabbed in the chest by the attacker.

He was taken to hospital by air ambulance, where he was being treated for his injuries.

Officers were making inquiries to trace the attacker

The air ambulance had landed in playing fields near Barr Beacon School.

West Midlands Police today said the officer has been discharged from hospital and is recovering at home.

The force issued an appeal to trace the offender who made off from the scene in a dark blue Ford Fiesta.
