The pair, both aged 21, were detained at separate addresses in Walsall this morning. A flat on the floor below where the murder victim lived was among those raided by police.

Kevin Shepperson was discovered lying in the blood-spattered hall of his flat on the top floor of a three-storey block on Bloxwich Road South, Willenhall, shortly after noon on Wednesday and was confirmed dead at the scene.

The front door had been left open and the body, which was tied up, was discovered when a horrified friend came to visit him.

It is thought a TV and other items may have been missing from the flat.

The murder scene

Mr Shepperson lived alone and had been there for more than a dozen years.

Shocked friends said he had been off work with depression for some time but had recently perked up and had started going to the gym.

One person said: "He was a quiet man but sociable and would always say hello. He would not have hurt a fly."

A post mortem examination is due to take place on Saturday and the address remained cordoned off today while forensic experts examined the scene.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Joyce, from the West Midlands Police Homicide Unit, said: "Our investigation is moving swiftly and although we have made arrests, we are still keen to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious.

"Every bit of information is vital to our investigation and I would urge anyone who can help to contact me or my team on 101.

"We have specialist officers with Mr Shepperson’s family as they try to come to terms with their loss. Our thoughts remain with them at this time."

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Homicide Team on 101 quoting log number 1058 of 22/08/18.

Information can also be given to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
