Boy, 16, remanded in custody over rape and murder of Viktorija Sokolova

A teenage boy accused of raping and murdering a 14-year-old girl found dead in West Park has been remanded in custody until June.

Viktorija Sokolova was discovered in the Wolverhampton park on Thursday last week sparking a murder investigation.

The 16-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth during the short hearing at Wolverhampton Crown Court today.

He was wearing a grey tracksuit with a light blue t-shirt underneath, while his father sat on the front row of the public gallery.

The victim's family were not present for the hearing.

The teenager was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Wolverhampton Crown Court for a plea and trial preparation hearing on June 8.

A provisional trial date has been set as October 8.
