Man arrested after 'CS spray' set off in nightclub

Two people were taken to hospital after reports of CS gas being set off inside a nightclub.

Police have arrested a man after Nu Bar, in Kidderminster, was evacuated when a 'pepper spray' was released.

Fourteen people were also assessed by ambulance staff following the incident in the early hours of Saturday.

Police combed the venue, in New Road, around 1.30am amid reports a CS gas cannister was left off.

A 24-year-old clubgoer, who was in Nu Bar at the time, told the Express & Star: "The lights came on, then police were walking through checking everywhere wearing blue gloves and trying to see where the CS gas was.

"Two fire engines then turned up. I did couldn't see anything in there but someone said they set off CS gas.

"The club got evacuated around half one when the police turned up – there were at least four officers searching the club.

"No one knew what was going on."

Inspector Jacob Wright, from West Mercia Police, tweeted to say it is thought the CS gas substance was a pepper spray.

Ambulance officials said 14 people suffered mild symptoms but did not require further treatment.

Two people were taken to hospital for further assessment after it is believed they inhaled the substance.

They have since been released.

Police said a 29-year-old man from Kidderminster was arrested on suspicion of possessing a weapon for the discharge of a noxious liquid or gas and assault ABH.

He remained in police custody on Saturday afternoon.

Two ambulances and a hazardous area response team were sent to the scene.
