A man has been seriously injured after being stabbed at a barbers in a 'targeted attack'.

Emergency services were called to Choice Cut Barbers in Bushbury Lane, Bushbury, Wolverhampton, at around 1.20pm today.

Detectives have launched an investigation amid reports the attacker burst into the barber’s armed with a large knife.

The force said: "A man aged in his 30s suffered a serious hand injury in what is believed to be a targeted attack."

West Midlands Ambulance Service were also called to the scene alongside the Midlands Air Ambulance.

The air ambulance landed at nearby Bushbury fields before staff tended to the victim.

The victim was treated before being airlifted to Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital to its major trauma unit.

Workers at neighbouring businesses say they first heard of trouble when an ambulance arrived.


Trim Barbershop is just a few steps away from Choice Cut.

Trim barber Grant Vickers said Bushbury Lane is usually a 'busy area but not dangerous at all'.

Richard James, who was walking past when police arrived, said: “They got him in an ambulance and drove him up the road to the back of the allotments where he got put in an air ambulance.”

A businesswoman who works near Choice Cut, but did not want to be named, said: “Some of our neighbours are quite loud and shouty so we’re used to a bit of noise - we didn’t hear anything out of the ordinary until the ambulance arrived.

“My daughter was texting me saying 'Mum! Mum! Text me!' To check I was ok.”

Chris Nickholds, who works at garden centre All Seasons, in Bushbury Lane, added: "We saw the air ambulance land behind our allotments and then another ambulance came racing up Sandy Lane followed by a police car - both with blue flashing lights - to get to the air ambulance.”

An investigation is underway and anyone with information can call 101.

The attack is now the fifth stabbing in Wolverhampton inside a fortnight.

A 17-year-old boy was attacked in an alleyway on Jameson Street, in Whitmore Reans, at around 2.10am on February 3.

A man in his 20s was knifed four times in Lime Street Park in Pennfields, while two schoolboys were stabbed in Owen Road and Ashland Street on January 26.
