A teenager seen performing wheelies on a stolen motorbike killed his 15-year-old passenger when he hit a car, a court heard.

Before the tragedy in Lunt Road, Bilston, the boy was caught on CCTV riding on one wheel and weaving in and out of traffic along the same road.

Passenger Kian Buckler was flung into the air when the motorbike hit the Toyota vehicle, driven by disqualified driver Jamaine Lindo, at the junction of Boswell Road.

He suffered catastrophic injuries and died three days later in hospital.

The 16-year-old rider, who suffered a fractured knee and jaw, appeared at Wolverhampton Youth Court this week.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous.

He also admitted driving with no licence, insurance and failing to provide a blood test.

District Judge Michael Wheeler sent the case to Wolverhampton Crown Court for sentencing due to the 'serious nature' of the offence.

Lindo, aged 37, of Lunt Road, Bilston, was judged not to have caused the crash, but at Walsall Magistrates Court last month he was jailed for eight weeks for driving while disqualified and failing to stop at the incident.

Prosecuting, Ms Virinder Bains, said: "Ten to 15 minutes prior to the collision, the defendant was seen driving up and down the road performing wheelies, weaving in and out of traffic, overtaking cars - all this with no lights on.

"The driver of the vehicle was arrested for causing death by dangerous driving, but once the CCTV was viewed it was dropped."

Kian Buckler was described as a 'cheeky chappie' by his mother

Ms Bains said the motorbike, a black Quingqi, had been stolen from an address in Hill Street in Wolverhampton on August 24.

Three months later, at 6.40pm on November 29, the youth defendant was seen riding the bike with Kian on the back in Lunt Road without lights or a number plate.

Neither of the pair were wearing a helmet and it was 'extremely dark', said Ms Bains

The motorbike hit the car driven by Lindo, who was joining Lunt Road from Boswell Road.

Ms Bains said: "The passenger went through the air and went head first in the centre of the carriageway. He was not wearing protective head gear.

"The rider flew off the bike into Boswell Road.

"After stopping for a short time, Mr Lindo made off in his vehicle."

Lindo, who also pleaded guilty to driving without insurance, was disqualified from driving for 24 months.

The youth was remanded to appear at Wolverhampton Crown Court on January 15.
