The victim was woken up when the thief broke in through the window of her Dudley home at around 2.30am yesterday.

West Midlands Police say she was pushed back down into the bed as he demanded to know where she kept her cash.

He fled with money and jewellery from the property, on Parkes Hall Road, Woodsetton.

Police say they have now stepped up patrols to reassure people in the area.

West Midlands Police temporary Det Insp Ade George said: “This was a terrifying experience for a very vulnerable and elderly lady.

"Fortunately she wasn’t physically injured, but she remains very shaken by what happened.

"Police enquiries are ongoing to trace the man who did this and I would appeal for anyone who has information or anyone in the Parkes Hall Road area early yesterday morning, who may have seen anything, to contact police on 101."

He was white, thin, with dark stubble and wearing a dark hoodie.
