Work on Walsall's tallest tower is off to a flying start
The tallest building in Walsall is to be given a brand new lease of life thanks to property firm Tameway as it embarks on its latest venture.
Nottingham-based Tameway (Midlands) is planning to convert Tameway Tower, on Bridge Street, Walsall into 143 flats.
Arran Bailey, owner of Tameway (Midlands), said the plans for the landmark building were aimed at increasing footfall in the town centre and would help to regenerate the area.
He said: “The building has been in need of a revamp for some time and we are confident that we have a scheme which will be of benefit to Walsall. It will breathe new life into that area and create footfall.
"Work on the building began two weeks ago by the development team at ALB and HBW, and it has come off to a flying start. Work is progressing swiftly, and we are really pleased.
Arran added: "We are again teaming up with Prosperity Wealth on this development, after two previous successful projects in Dudley and Derby."
Tameway Tower is 14-floors tall and was originally built as office accommodation in the 1970s. Part of the ground floor of the scheme will continue to be occupied as offices.
The team behind the development also successfully worked to convert an eight-storey office block in Dudley into 141 apartments, a project which is due for completion in August.
The 88,000 sq ft Falcon House property at The Minories will provide 64 one-bed and 76 two-bed flats as a result of the £14m redevelopment.
The team previously converted the 108,000 sq ft St Peters House office block in Derby into 158 apartments and ground floor offices.
The Walsall development, on Bridge Street, will add more than 100,000 sq ft to the portfolio.
The conversion scheme was given the green light by Walsall planners in September last year.
