The Google Digital Garage is coming to Stourbridge

It is part of the company’s Google Digital Garage initiative. On June 1 Google will set up a digital training hub at King Edward VI College in Stourbridge where coaches will offer local people and businesses free advice and coaching on digital skills to help grow their business, career or confidence.

For the first time, during ‘Love Your Local Market’ fortnight, the training will be tailored to local market traders such as at the market in Stourbridge to help them reach new customers beyond their local area.

Stourbridge MP and Minister for Digital and Creative Industries, Margot James, will be attending the training sessions at King Edward VI College, where the bespoke training courses for market traders will include: building a digital marketing plan, how to make your stall more visible online, and social media strategy.

Meanwhile the Google Digital Garage double-decker bus is due to make a return visit to Wolverhampton city centre on Tuesday.

Ronan Harris, managing director at Google UK, said: “In the digital age, a basic understanding of how the online world works is useful and when it comes to business, it’s essential. We are delighted to bring the Google Digital Garage to Stourbridge and ensure everyone has access to free digital skills workshops and one-to-one coaching.

“In particular, we’re aiming to give market traders in Stourbridge the digital skills they need to make the most of new technologies to level the playing field against their competition, reach new customers beyond their local area and grow, ensuring markets remain at the heart of local communities.”

The Stourbridge event will also offer a range of free workshops and face-to-face coaching for anyone from the local area, with visitors having the option to either book in advance or simply drop by for on-the-spot help. The training ranges from beginner to intermediate levels, meaning everyone can come and take part. Topics covered will include: taking your first steps online, how to build your digital CV and personal brand online, and social media strategy.
