The Walsall-based home assistance group developed the smart water leak detector at its HomeServe Labs base in Green Lane.

It has now struck a deal with Legal & General to offer the LeakBot to customers to help prevent damage from water leaks – the second biggest driver of home insurance claims. L&G is the third insurance company to strike a LeakBot deal with HomeServe.

From this summer, select Legal & General customers will be offered a LeakBot device to install in their home. The gadget can detect leaks anywhere on the mains water supply in a home, before they turn into bigger, potentially damaging problems.

The award-winning LeakBot device uses break-through Thermi-Q technology. Customers can simply clip the small device onto their water pipe near the stopcock and download the app onto their smartphone for instant monitoring and updates on any potential water leaks in their property. Customers can then choose to access on-demand repair assistance from HomeServe or their preferred provider.

Cheryl Agius, CEO of Legal & General’s general insurance division, said: “I am delighted that we have joined in partnership with HomeServe to enable us to offer this unique service to our customers.

"Anyone who has experienced a leak of water in their home from a burst pipe or leaking radiator know just how devastating the damage can be. By raising awareness of the risks posed by the escape of water in the home and offering a solution to detect any leakage, we hope to be able to help our customers minimise their potential exposure to water damage.”

Martin Bennett, chief executive of HomeServe UK, said “Connected home innovation that makes life easier for Customers and helps keep life moving is a key strategic focus for HomeServe and clearly, Legal & General share a similar objective.

“Legal & General is the third major insurer to partner with us to offer LeakBot to its customers. This shows the huge impact our device has had in the insurance industry with more and more insurers recognising LeakBot’s ability to solve the massive issue of water leak damage. We are looking forward to seeing Legal & General’s customers benefit from LeakBot and are hoping to work with more partners in the future.”
