Leslie's Care Packages, based in Stourbridge, has thanked their supporters for their generosity on their Facebook page.

Vi Wood, who runs the group with the help of her friends and family, said: "We were able to help a family who is currently homeless and sofa surfing with a stunning £155.

More coverage:

"A massive thank you to everyone who contributed."

The funds will pay for rail and bus passes for the children in the family so they can get to school, as well as birthday presents and cards.

Additional items that were donated for the girl's birthday included a designer purse, beauty products and a bottle of bubbly.

The family was also given a food and toiletry parcel.

Vi set up Leslie's Care Packages in 2016 following her own experiences after her she lost her husband, who it is named after, to cancer and nearly found herself homeless.

She said: “I’m using my own tragedy for positivity and I’m dedicated to helping anyone who needs it.”

The group help as many people as possible across the Black Country, from the homeless to refugees, single mothers and vulnerable people.

People who are in need of support get in touch with LCP through social media, email and word of mouth referrals.

Vi is committed to helping as many people as she can by running LCP alongside working.

The cause has been widely supported on social media, with some setting up standing orders to donate money to help pay for additional storage.

LCP is also asking parents and head teachers across the region to consider setting up a collection for toiletries and non perishable food in schools.

Vi added: "If only each parent and staff member donated one Item, the donations would be enormous and that would allow us to help so many more families and the homeless."
