Haydn Gamble braved a four-day bike ride from Wolverhampton to Aberdovey to raise funds for Sandwell Young Carers.

His ride came as part of Karen Jerrison's year-long campaign to gather cash for young carers during her 12-month stint at the helm of The Inner Wheel Club of Wednesbury.

Outgoing president Miss Jerrison said: "This money was raised because as president, I had 12 months to fundraise for a charity.

"I have been doing things throughout the year to raise money for Sandwell Young Carers.

"Haydn came to one of my events and he said he goes on bike rides. I was explaining to him a bit about the charity and he said he would do a bike ride."

More than £1,000 was raised for the charity as part of Mr Gamble's bike ride, with at least £2,000 raised for good causes by Miss Jerrison over the past 12 months.

Miss Jerrison added: "I chose Sandwell Young Carers because they are a local charity.

"I believe all children should have a childhood and I don't think young carers get a good share of it.

"I have had a great year as president, I thoroughly enjoyed it ad I should be doing it again at some stage.

"I just want to keep on going and see what other avenues I can pursue to get Sandwell Young Carers more money."
