The 14-year-old went riding on the bike despite being told by his mum not to go out in Wolverhampton.

But the youngster was later spotted by officers from Wednesfield Police riding without a helmet near Heath Town's Wolverhampton Road.

He then attempted to flee from police when officers tried to seize the moped, which had no tax, just after 1pm on Thursday.

Pc Mark Foster, of Wolverhampton neighbourhood policing team, said: "Dealt with the rider being a 14 year old boy wearing no helmet and shorts, whose mum only the other day had warned him not to ride it.

"Sometimes mums do know best."

The officer confirmed there had also been reports of anti-social behaviour in parks around Wednesfield, which involved the moped, earlier in the day.
