Jackie and Tony North give the thumbs down

Theresa May made a desperate attempt to get the public onside with her Downing Street speech, but her words did not resonate with people in Wolverhampton.

Retired couple Jackie and Tony North, who live in Featherstone, pointed out that the PM had backed Remain in the EU referendum and said she hadn’t listened to the public since.

Commenting on her speech, Tony, 78, said: “I think it’s a load of bull and she should listen to the public – we should’ve been out months ago.

“Not one of them listens to the public – bring Boris Johnson, get him in.”

Jackie, 72, said she doesn’t believe Theresa May was on the public’s side, describing her recent comments as “a load of codswallop”.

Mark Cartwright from Telford

Mark Crompton, a painter and decorator from Telford, said everybody has “had enough” of Brexit, adding that the PM had “betrayed” the result of the referendum.

“We voted for certain things and she’s not delivering what we’ve asked for. I’m sick of hearing about it and now she’s getting a delay – we voted to leave on that day and they can’t do things like that.

“We put them in power and they are there to serve us – they’re making us feel like we’re serving them.”

Faye Stimpson and Kirsty Shingler, from Bridgnorth

Kirsty Shingler, from Bridgnorth, said: “We’re bored of it – that’s the general consensus across the board. They need to hurry up and do something, really.

“Everyone is just bored of it and there’s just been too many votes.

“It’s in your face all of the time.”

Faisal Shahid from Sparkhill

Pharmacy student Faisal Shahid, 23, said the PM had been put in a “difficult position” as a Remainer, adding: “I feel she’s not competent enough and her speech has not said anything new.

“I think you’re going to have a soft Brexit or not at all. The EU has said this is the best deal. I think she’s trying to shift the blame.”
