Man dies after being hit by car in Albrighton

A man has died following a serious crash, which left a major road on the Staffordshire-Shropshire border closed for several hours this morning.

The A41 just before the junction with County Lane

The 53-year-old pedestrian from Codsall, near Wolverhampton, was hit by a white Mercedes on the A41 Newport Road, Albrighton, just before the junction with County Lane, at five minutes past midnight.

An emergency doctor and paramedics rushed to his aid but were not able to save him. He was declared dead at the scene.

Police serious collision investigators are now appealing for any witness information or dashcam footage of the incident, particularly anyone who saw a pedestrian walking along the A41 at that time.

The motorist, who was badly shaken, passed a breathalyser test at the scene. She was taken to hospital for checks but was not thought to be injured. She has not been arrested.

The A41 was closed from Kingswood Common in both directions until just after 5.30am.

Inspector John Ward, of Staffordshire Police, confirmed no arrests were made.
