Young female leaders of the future were given food for thought during an inspirational workshop.

Award-winning author Kit de Waal and broadcaster Vick Hope were welcomed by more than 40 teenage girls at Wolverhampton's The Way Youth Zone.

The special evening saw youngsters chill out on beans bags while munching on popcorn and pizza during the empowering talk.

Kit de Waal said: "To see so many young women interested in exploring creativity and so many different types of girls altogether in the same place is really inspiring for someone of my age. It was lovely to see the strength of the girls in Wolverhampton come together.”

The two guests delved deep into their backgrounds, revealing the trial and tribulations of climbing to the top of their careers.

Teenagers quizzed the duo during a question and answer session after the guests shared advice for breaking into the industry.

University of Cambridge graduate and entrepreneur Lu Williams also joined the free session, calling on the teenagers to get creative with a special workshop about self-publishing.

Ms Hope, who is currently competing on BBC's Strictly Come Dancing, added: "What a pleasure to spend the evening with such a brilliant group of girls, thank you for your empowered attitudes and thoughtful, engaging questions. I loved hosting the inspirational session.”

The event at the School Street club - which saw all young people take home one of Kit de Waal's books - was organised by NatWest and its partner the Women's Prize for Fiction.

The collaboration aims to inspire young people to explore the literary world by connecting them with female role modes..
