Wolves supporters in Russia get new flag – but can't get it in stadium

A Black Country father and son whose St George's flag was stolen at the World Cup received a new one – but could not get it into this week's game against Colombia.

James and Tim Corfield arranged for the flag, which features a Wolves emblem and the words 'Corfs on Tour', delivered to them while staying in Moscow.

The Wolves fans ordered it after their last flag was taken inside the Volgograd Arena during England's win over Tunisia last month.

But when the pair went to take it inside the Otkritie Arena for Tuesday's second round game, they were told it was too large.

James, aged 28, and from Wollaston, said: "We took the flag to the stadium but they told us on entrance it was 30cm too large. The maximum is two metres wide.

"We hadn't had a problem in Volgograd and they seemed very prepared about measuring all the flags at the game.

"It was a disappointment."

The episode, however, has not put the pair off the World Cup.

They have seen every England game so far and plan to follow the side up to the final.

Yesterday afternoon they flew to the next game's location, Samara, near the Kazakhstan border.

It will host England against Sweden in the quarter final.

The flights cost £150 return from Moscow.

James said: "It has been a great experience for us both.

"We've met so many different people who all have different stories to tell.

"We obviously don't want the journey to end."
