Staff lined up to pay tribute to Malcolm Meddings

Former Moog factory worker Malcolm Meddings died aged 61 following a fall at his Heath Town home earlier this year.

Staff from the Coven factory put their work on hold as Mr Medding's hearse passed by his former workplace last week.

His sister Sandra Wilks said: "He was quite a generous man, quite understanding, someone you could always depend on.

"He loved his job, he loved the people he worked with. He just got on with it, he did not make a drama out of things.

"We will miss him terribly. He leaves a big hole."

Flags at the aerospace factory, based at the 154 estate in Fordhouses, were at half-mast following news of hydraulics fitter Mr Meddings death.

The Labour Party member, who was born at New Cross Hospital, started as an apprentice at the factory - where he was once crowned apprentice of the year.

Mr Meddings, who worked at the factory for more than 40 years, was forced to retire from his job about 18 months ago after failing eyesight.

Mrs Wilks, who lives in Codsall, said: "He was heartbroken that he had to give up his job but his failing health forced him to do that unfortunately.

"He was quite stoic about it and he showed great courage and fortitude in light of many health problems.

"There were a lot of retired workers that turned up to his funeral and some of them were given time off to go the the funeral.

"It was very emotional, very touching. To think they would fly the flags at half mast is quite a thing."

Mr Meddings, who lived in the same house he was born in, died on April 22 and his funeral took place on May 30.

His sister added: "He loved politics and he had a fantastic sense of humour. He was remarkable in more than one way."
