The fourth annual contest for young people in the city will be inviting entries tomorrow (friday).

The competition, organised by Wolverhampton Photographic Society, is open to those age 18 or younger and who live, study, or work within the WV postcode area.

There are four photographic themes for those aged 15 to 18 – creative, open, portrait and movement – and for those aged below 15 there is a single open category. Each person may submit up to three photographs into each theme category and stand to win a cash prize of £50 in any of the categories, with £30 for the winner of the Under 15 section.

The overall winner in the 15 to 18 section will become Wolverhampton Young Photographer 2019, winning a trophy to keep and a second trophy for their school or college. The overall winner will also receive a photographic workshop.

Carol Bailey, chairman of Wolverhampton Photographic Society said: "We have been so impressed with the creativity young people have captured in their photographs in this competition. Teenagers see the world from a different perspective and it is so inspiring to share their images. We really encourage all young people to enter whether they use a phone, a school camera or the latest gear from a friend or family. The future of photography is looking good, in the hands of Wolverhampton's young people."

The organisers hope more schools in Wolverhampton will encourage students to enter and guide them to create photographs that maintain the high standards from previous years.

Entries will be accepted until midnight on Saturday, December 22 with more information on the competition website – wolverhamptonyp.org.uk.

There will be an exhibition of entries at Wolverhampton Art Gallery starting on January 25 and the awards at the same venue on Sunday, February 5.
