Today is annual Record Store Day, and all over the nation record collectors have been lining up outside independent stores to get their hands on the most exclusive discs.

In Wolverhampton, hundreds of people flocked to Vintage & Vinyl in Cleveland Street.

Owner Claire Howell said people were queuing up outside the shop during the night.

"Only certain shops can participate in record store day," she said. "There are exclusive records that you can't get at other shops, for example HMV. People were queuing overnight.

"At 7.30am we went out to give them tea, coffee and biscuits and then let them in at 8am. We serve about 120 to 130 people usually on the day by 11am. It's all to promote independent record shops."

Record Store Day is the one day of the year when more than 200 independent record shops all across the UK come together to celebrate their unique culture.

Special vinyl releases are made exclusively for the day and many shops and cities host artist performances and events to mark the occasion. Thousands more shops celebrate the day around the globe in what’s become one of the biggest annual events on the music calendar.
