Wolverhampton rockers CityLightz teamed up with Wolverhampton College and BBC Introducing to perform at the city's Slade Rooms in order to be filmed by the college's students.

The event was branded a success by the organisers, with college staff declaring it had "inspired" their students.

CityLightz are growing quickly on the West Midlands' unsigned music scene and are heavily supported by BBC Introducing WM – a project set up by the broadcaster in 2007 to give musicians across the country a chance of exposure through their local radio stations.

BBC Introducing WM presenter Alex Noble named CityLightz as one of their "Sound of 2019" acts. He said of them: "Packed full of energy and potential, CityLightz never fail to deliver and they certainly are ones to watch in 2019."

The City of Wolverhampton College's creative arts department got involved with the project in 2017 when they were approached to create a live music video for fellow unsigned artist Kioko. They have also delivered multiple projects from the Slade Rooms.

A college spokesperson said: "Since the Kioko project it has gone from strength to strength and we were delighted to team up with Citylightz for the next venture.

"The project sees music technology – live sound and events students team up with the media and photography students to design sound, lighting and stage, to live record and then film the tracks at The Slade Rooms venue, which are edited and uploaded to BBC iPlayer."

Curriculum manager and music technology lecturer Jo Slater added: "This has been a great opportunity for the students to gain real work experience working with a prestigious client and a talented band.

"It’s really inspired them and forced them to work outside of their comfort zones; they’ve produced something they should be very proud of."

A tweet from the BBC Introducing WM twitter account on Friday said the video and live tracks recorded and created by the college students would be "coming soon". For more on these, follow @bbcintrowm and @citylightzmusic on Twitter.
