The Greatest Show Wench hits stage
Fizzogs Sue Hawkins and Deb Nicholls have returned to their musical routes as part of a new show by the Black Country comedy/theatre group.
The Greatest Show Wench – their reworking of the hit movie The Greatest Showman – will be touring throughout October and November.
It will highlight the singing talents of Sue and Deb who began their showbiz careers as teenagers.
“ Deb and I started having singing lessons when we were 16 and both made careers out of it, singing in duos, bands and solo for around 10 years, now we just tend to sing as part of our shows,” said Sue.
“The concept for the new show came about when I said to Deb I think we should do The Greatest Show Woman as we were watching the film. Calling it Show Wench came from Fizzog regular James Collins.
“We then decided to go to Spain for a few days to write the show - something we’ve never done before, and we did. Laughing to ourselves, we wrote the whole thing sitting by the pool.
“The biggest challenge has been dancing and singing at the same time. We’re known for doing both, but our Choreographer Nikki Elsner-Gummery has worked wonders.”
There was a slight setback when Fizzog Jacky Fellows broke her leg in the summer. ”We’ve had to adjust slightly but Jacky is on the mend,” said Sue. ”There just won’t be any scrapping in this one from the Froggatt sisters.
“We’d spent many years saying Jacky’s character Millie Froggatt was the ideal bearded woman on the fair. So that made perfect sense for this show.”
