All that jazz at school musicals

A West Bromwich school is ending the academic year in style with a number of musical performances.

The performing arts department at George Salter Academy, on Davey Road, have staged the first platform to bring youth people together with other schools in the local area.

Pieces have come from dance companies Chicane and Charge, run by the school, as well as GCSE and BTEC examination work.

This includes Chicago the musical which will be performed on June 27 and 28.

From 6pm onwards year 10 students will transport audiences back to the roaring 1920's throughout this production.

Connie Phillips, who's playing Roxie Hart, said: "This is an iconic production that is inspired by Bob Fosse's captivating choreography."

Alongside this, an annual festival called Dimensions Artsfest is also coming on July 10 from 5.30pm.

It embraces a movie theme with music from films such as Mamma Mia, Bohemian Rhapsody and Back to the Future.

There will be food, drinks and activities on offer at the event, with money being raised for Black Country Women's Aid.

Tickets for Chicago are £3 for children and £5 for adults.

Artsfest tickets are £1 for children, £2 for adults and £5 for a family ticket for two adults and two children.
