West Bromwich Operatic Society arrived at the city theatre last night for the opening performance.

The musical runs until this Saturday – and theatre bosses say it's one not to be missed.

Press and PR Manager at the Grand Theatre Scott Bird said; “Cats is one of the most iconic musicals to come out of West End, having toured the world for nearly 40 years.

"Only very recently have performance rights been granted to local companies and we’re delighted that West Bromwich Operatic Society will be among the first adult Musical Theatre companies to perform the show here on our stage."

The famous Andrew Lloyd Webber musical runs until May 18.

Adapted from TS Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, the performance tells the story of a tribe of cats called the Jellicles and the night they make what is known as the 'Jellicle choice' – their leader announces which of them will go up to The Heaviside Layer and be reborn into a whole new life.

The musical will be directed by Ben Cole, with musical direction with Adam Joy and choreography by Claire Flavell. Costumes for the production have been created by Leo’s Theatrical Costumiers, based in Bentley Bridge.

WBOS recently celebrated its 80th anniversary and have previously staged Priscilla Queen of the Desert and West Side Story, among other famous productions.

Tickets are now on sale – visit the Grand Theatre in person, call 01902 42 92 12 or visit grandtheatre.co.uk for bookings and more information.
