Wolverhampton Grand Theatre's 2019 season announced for 125th anniversary celebrations
Wolverhampton Grand Theatre's 125th anniversary pantomime has been revealed for 2019.
The magic of Dick Whittington will come to the theatre, featuring the set, costumes and production values direct from the Olivier Award-winning London Palladium production.
The shows will run from December 7, 2019 to January 12, 2020 and the cast is yet to be announced.
Audience members can join Dick Whittington as he seeks fame, fortune and happiness to become the Lord Mayor of London.
Guided by the magical Fairy Bow Bells on an adventure that sends him from London town to the High Seas headed for Morocco, can he outwit the evil King Rat, free London from his team of revolting rodents and win the beautiful Alice’s hand in marriage?
But before next year's panto season starts, Nativity! The Musical will kick off the festive season from October 29 to November 2.
The musical will tell the story of St Bernadette’s School where they are attempting to mount a musical version of the nativity. And teacher Mr Maddens has promised that a Hollywood producer is coming to see the show to turn it into a film. Join him, his teaching assistant the crazy Mr Poppy, and the children as they struggle to make everyone’s Christmas wish come true.
The 125th anniversary programme at the Grand will also include the longest running singing group in pop history The Drifters, who will perform live on April 15, Des O’Connor and Jimmy Tarbuck Live, straight from the London Palladium on April 27.
Meanwhile, Tina: Simply the Best will showcase the vocals of Caroline Borole live on stage with a band and backing dancers on June 10, and Grammy award-winning musical Hair starring Dancing on Ice’s 2018 champion Jake Quickenden will be performed from July 23 to 27.
Willy Russell’s Educating Rita will come to the theatre between July 8 and 13 starring actors Stephen Tompkinson as Frank and Jessica Johnson as Rita, and Cabaret will be performed from September 3 to 7, directed by National Theatre artistic director Rufus Norris.
Tickets for the new season will go on sale to Friends of the Grand at 11am on Saturday and at 11am on Monday for the general public.
