Visitors were invited to walk around the Parkland at the stately home near Great Haywood carrying hand-made lights to create an enchanting ambience.

It follows a series of workshops held at the National Trust home during which guests have been taught how to make hand-made lanterns by an artistic guide.

This is the first full Christmas at the historical estate since the National Trust took it over from Staffordshire County Council which had temporarily leased.

It opened up for the first time in March after £1million had been ploughed into improving the popular attraction.

Staff and volunteers take the time to decorate the hall which takes eight days to put up 480 meters of fairy lights, 1,850 baubles and more than 16 meters of garland swags.

The mansion will remain decorated until December 23 and it will be closed on Christmas day as well as eve.
