Temple Meadow Primary School, in Cradley Heath, has put on an arts carnival to go towards their 'Artsmark' award which was launched by the Arts Council of England to encourage more students into art.

The primary also put on the carnival to "promote irresistible learning and arts" and celebrate drama, arts and music.

In the week leading up to the main event, all of the students took part in lessons relating to the arts, for example, by making willow and tissue paper sculptures with an artist which were later used in the carnival.

On the day, the 420 students used the school's new one mile track to parade around and show off masks, music and flags relating to continents that they had been learning about before the carnival.

Younger years completed one walk around the track whilst those older completed two.

A dance routine was also performed by some students.

Speaking about the event, teacher Andrea Collins said: "Everybody had a fabulous time and all of the children absolutely loved it.

"I've had lots of parents tell me how lovely the event was."

In the future, the school plans to put on another arts carnival and is hoping to make it a yearly event.
