Doreen, who will star in the panto at The Grand Theatre later this year, visited Veronica House in Tipton to open the wing which has been designed to help care for people with dementia.

Care home manager Marc Cohen said Doreen 'was a really warm and funny lady' and her comedic antics helped make the opening a success and the residents enjoyed her visit.

Doreen took the time to chat to residents and also orchestrated a sing-a-long with residents including 'We'll Meet Again' by Vera Lynn.

The comedienne brought along some ribbon and a pair of scissors to commemorate the opening of the new wing of the nursing home which now features a ‘plaque’ to commemorate her visit and also the opening of the wing.

Bosses said the new wing will mean residents will be able to receive better care as their needs will be specifically cared for.

Later this year Doreen will star in the panto performance of ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ at the Grand.

Her role in this year’s panto follows on from her successful cameo in last year’s panto performance of Aladdin where she played ‘The Lazy Empress’ and was named ‘Best Panto Newcomer’.
