GALLERY: Hundreds sing out to inspire courage at West Bromwich charity concert

The concert saw a wide range of acts take to the stage, with local groups like Birmingham Town Hall’s Gospel Choir mixing with international acts like Volney Morgan and New-Ye.

There were speeches and sermons from preachers and pastors throughout the day, spreading the word of God and awareness of breast cancer.

More than 600 people attended the concert at the Bethel Convention Centre in West Bromwich, which was organised by promotional gospel company Gospel Breakthrough.

Rev. Martin John formed the company with his wife Dee in 2019 to raise funds for Breast Cancer Now after Dee survived her own brush with the disease last year.

He spoke about how he felt the event had gone and how it had been received by those present.

He said: “I thought the whole day was excellent and I think everyone who came left feeling spiritually and physically enriched by the experience.

“I give thanks to almighty God for helping me to put on this event for a good cause and I feel the objectives of bringing people together in worship were met.

More than £1,000 was raised from the event, which will go towards Breast Cancer Now.

Rev. Martin said some of the highlights for him were the performances of international gospel singers Chevelle Franklyn and Carlene Davis and his wife Dee making a speech about her own illness.

He said: “To see my wife up there telling her own story to people who, in a lot of cases, she’d never met was very emotional.

“It showed her courage that was present throughout the treatment and I know a lot of people were very touched by her story.

“I want to thank all of our team for the great work they put in on short notice to get this event together, which will be the first of many.”
