Former Dire Straits vocalist Mark Knopfler to bring solo tour to Birmingham

Former Dire Straits vocalist Mark Knopfler will bring his headline world tour to Birmingham next year.

Hailed as one of the greatest guitarists of all time, the 69-year-old singer/songwriter has sold over 120 million albums across his career with Dire Straits and his solo career.

He is best known for a series of hit songs, including Money For Nothing, Sultans Of Swing, Romeo & Juliet and Walk Of Life.

Mark has released eight solo albums as well as recording Neck And Neck with guitar great Chet Atkins, and collaborated with Emmylou Harris on All The Roadrunning.

He has created several film soundtracks, including Local Hero, The Princess Bride and Altamira.

In addition to producing his own records, the star has also produced albums for Bob Dylan and Randy Newman amongst others.

Mark was made an OBE in 1999 and was given the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the Ivor Novellos in 2012 as recognition for his impressive career.

He will perform at the Genting Arena, soon to be Resorts World Arena, on May 30.
