Forget the new Jurassic Park film, if you want to get up close to our prehistoric pals then you won’t want to miss Dinosaur World Live.

Intrepid explorers young and old were invited to grab their compass and venture back to the land before time at Birmingham Town Hall.

Astonishing puppetry reminiscent of War House brought long extinct beasts back to life in what was the ideal show for all dino-fanatics.

Led by a fictional narrator called Miranda - the daughter of a couple of explorers - the audience was introduced one-by-one to a catalogue of lifelike dinosaurs including Triceratops, Giraffatitan, Microraptor and Segnosaurus.

Our toddler, an Andy’s Prehistoric Adventure fan, loved seeing the creatures come alive, however the show was perhaps a little dialogue-heavy for her.

We also felt the stage set could have been more magical; pretend foliage could have added something extra. It was a fast-paced show, and lacked a bit of suspense too as each creature was brought out in quick succession.

However, the penultimate dinosaur - an enormous T-Rex - was spectacular and slightly petrifying, even for the older members of the audience.

A roarsome way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
