Doreen's got her hands full as Birmingham Hippodrome panto launched

The festive season has kicked off early at Birmingham Hippodrome as the star-studded cast officially launched this year’s pantomime.

Oh no it hasn’t! Oh yes it has!

Actress and broadcaster Lesley Joseph, best known for playing Dorien Green in TV sitcom Birds of a Feather, will be leading the cast in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

She will be joined by Coronation Street favourite Faye Brookes, who plays Kate Connor and the Queen of the Black Country herself, Doreen Tipton.

Joining them on stage over the Christmas period will be Matt Slack, Joe McElderry, Andrew Ryan and Jac Yarrow.

The show will feature costumes and sets along with special effects direct from the sold-out London Palladium production in 2018.

The cast gathered together at Birmingham Hippodrome yesterday for the official launch of the pantomime – which will run at the theatre between December 21 and February 2.

Matt Slack is a panto favourite with audiences

Lesley Joseph will star as the Wicked Queen in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Most recently the 73-year-old starred as Miss Hannigan in Annie, Mrs Meers in Thoroughly Modern Millie as well as appearing in Home directed by Peter Hall.

Last year she starred in the musical adaptation of Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein in London’s west end starring as Frau Blücher, a role for which she was nominated for the 2018 Laurence Olivier Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical.

Andrew Ryan is playing Nanny Annie Aspirin

Pantomime favourite Matt Slack is returning to the Birmingham Hippodrome for the seventh consecutive year.

The Great British Pantomime Award winner will this year star as Muddles.

Singer, songwriter and actor Joe McElderry, who became a household name after winning the sixth series of ITV’s The X Factor, will star as the Spirit in the Mirror, while Faye Brookes will play the title role of Snow White.

Doreen Tipton will be venturing out of the Black Country to Birmingham this year to star as the Lady in Waiting, Jac Yarrow stars as the Prince, while Andrew Ryan completes the line-up as Nanny Annie Aspirin.

This year will mark Andrew’s 33rd pantomime, his 29th year as dame and his third in Birmingham.

The pantomime is produced by Qdos Entertainment, the world’s biggest pantomime producer.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs runs at Birmingham Hippodrome from December 21 to February 2.
