The Lakeside Proms weekend has been cancelled

Lakeside Proms was due to take place on the grounds of the complex on August 4 and 5, but the venue today announced it was being called off due to 'unforeseen circumstances'.

A very brief message posted on the event's page on the NEC website read: "Due to unforeseen circumstances, NEC Lakeside Proms with The Royal Philharmonic due to take place on 4th and 5th August has been cancelled.

"The organisers are very sorry for any inconvenience caused. Ticket holders should contact The Ticket Factory to receive a full refund."

It is unclear whether slow ticket sales, problems with the performers or problems with the planned outdoor venue are behind the cancellation.

Lakeside Proms was to feature the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. August 4 would have seen a night of symphonic rock played for fans, while the following evening had Hollywood hitting the lake as The Music of John Williams took over.

The first evening would have featured a spectacular light show to accompany the iconic music of Queen, Bon Jovi, David Bowie, The Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson, The Eagles and many more.

And on August 5, The Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra were to celebrate the musical brilliance of John Williams. Legendary film tunes include Star Wars, Indiana Jones, ET, Harry Potter, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Superman, Jaws, Jurassic Park, Schindler’s List, Hook, Fiddler on the Roof, Home Alone, War Horse and many more would have been included.

Both nights were to be followed by a finale firework display.
