Vibrant gardens to open up as part of National Open Gardens Scheme

Gardens bursting with vibrant colour will be on full display this weekend.

Various plants, trees and shrubs will be on display as part of the National Open Garden Scheme.

And gardens are set to open in Birmingham, Stourport, Haughton and Prestwood, near Stourbridge.

Seating is available for visitors next to the scenic displays, which includes several sculptures – including one of a lamb.

Another space in Stourport offers similar vibrant views, featuring plants from warmer climates to create a tropical feel.

Tree ferns, shrubs, a pond and waterfall will all be on show at the Oakhampton Road space.

The garden also attracts wildlife – including bees, hedgehogs, bats and a variety of birds.

Westacres in Prestwood, Wolverhampton Road, will showcase a three-quarters-of-an-acre garden.

A range of hostas, acers, shrubs and a large koi pond are all on offer for visitors to admire.

And this year will mark the 13th time owner Joyce Williams, will be opening her garden to the public.

The 72-year-old said: "It's just packed with plants, it's a lovely garden.

"There are a lot of interesting plants, hostas, a bamboo area, acers, and shrubs. There's a large koi pool as well. I hope a lot of people come to visit."

Two gardens will also open up in Staffordshire, with a green space offering stunning views of the River Sow.

Pershall Farm Cottage will showcase its country garden, herbaceous borders and water features, along with a view of the river and of Eccleshall church tower.

And the other offers a glimpse at some unusual plants.

Varieties on show at Yew Tree Cottage, Haughton, includes meconopsis, trillium, dierama, crocosmia and arisaema.

The space, which has been built up over 23 years, has also appeared on BBC Gardeners' World.

And one garden in the grounds of a manor will open in Shropshire.

Sambrook Manor's green space will showcase deep, colourful plants and sweeping lawns surrounding the early 18th century house.

Roses will also be on show, along with an arboretum which offers views of Newport.

A waterfall and Japanese garden are linked at the site, with offers scenic views of the area.
