The Dog and Doublet pub, in North Street, is on the market with the owner saying he needed to "move on" from the venture.

Sean Westwood, who has owned the pub for nearly five years, said: "I can run it on, but my other businesses need more of my attention.

"It's my baby, but it is what it is, and people have to move on and that's how it stands with The Dog.

"I started it from nothing and it was a place called 'Alchemy' and I turned it around into an indie venue.

"It's been nearly five years. I created it from scratch, basically with the inside, the interior – everything – I did it all.

"Sometimes you just have to move on and I hope someone else can make it better than I do."

Mr Westwood, who was born in Wolverhampton, said: "No decision has been made just yet and I'm looking for the best deal for me, too."

He also praised the customers who supported the pub, adding: "I want to say thanks to all the staff that has worked for me over the years and a big shout out to my best mate Jack who made the dog the success it is today.

"Thanks to all the customers and support over these crazy years."

Hundreds of people flocked to the pub when it first opened back in May 2014.
